Who We Are
Newcastle Insurance Group is a commercial insurance broker based in Edgeworth, working with businesses across Newcastle and the Hunter. We arrange public liability, business insurance packs, commercial property, fleet, professional indemnity, and cyber cover for construction firms, manufacturers, trades, and commercial property owners. We compare policies from a panel of Australian insurers, explain in plain English what is and is not covered, and manage the claim on your behalf when you need to make one.
What a commercial insurance broker actually does
An insurance broker works for you, not for an insurer. That is the whole distinction, and it changes what you get.
We start by looking at how your business actually operates: what you build or make, who is on site, what you own, what you owe, and what would happen to your income if you could not trade for a month. Then we go to the market on your behalf and bring back options that match that risk, rather than a policy that was written for a business that only looks like yours.
On the money side, brokers are usually paid a commission by the insurer, and sometimes a broker fee on top. Both are disclosed to you in writing before you agree to anything. You are not paying us twice, and you are not paying more than you would going direct just because a broker is involved. For a more in-depth look, we’ve also covered whether a business insurance broker can save you money in our guide, Can a Business Insurance Broker Save You Money?
Commercial cover we arrange in Newcastle
Public Liability Insurance
Covers you if someone outside your business is injured, or their property is damaged, because of something you did. Most commercial contracts in the Hunter will not proceed without it.
Business Insurance Pack
Bundles the covers most businesses need into one policy: property, contents, theft, glass, and business interruption for the income you lose while you cannot trade.
Commercial Property Insurance
For buildings you own or lease, whether you occupy them or rent them to a commercial tenant.
Cyber Insurance
Covers the cost of a ransomware attack or a fraudulent invoice: the forensic work, the data recovery, the income lost while systems are down, and the notification obligations that follow a breach.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
For businesses that give advice or design something. Covers claims that your professional work caused someone a financial loss.
Commercial vehicle and fleet insurance
Utes, vans, trucks and fleets, including the tools and signwriting a standard car policy will not touch.
Industries we work with
We spend most of our time with construction and manufacturing businesses, where the risk is physical, the contracts are specific about what cover you must hold, and getting it wrong is expensive. We also work with commercial property owners, trades, with transport operators, construction firms, trades and manufacturers, and with commercial property owners, real estate agencies, IT firms and marketing agencies.
Why Newcastle businesses use a broker instead of going direct
Because commercial risk does not fit a form. An online quote asks you eight questions and prices the answers. It does not ask whether your subcontractors carry their own liability cover, whether your lease makes you responsible for the building’s glass, or whether your business interruption sum insured still reflects what you turn over.
Being local matters more than it sounds. We can come to your site, see the plant and the stock, and understand the job before we go looking for a policy. When something goes wrong, you are calling a person who has already been there. If you’re a sole trader with a straightforward setup, such as one laptop and no physical premises, a direct policy may be all you need – and we’ll tell you that. Brokers add the most value when your risks are more complex and the right level of cover is critical. If you’re weighing up your options, find out how to choose the right business insurance broker
How we work with you
1. We talk.
A conversation about the business, not a form. Fifteen minutes is usually enough to know whether we can help. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
2. We go to the market.
We take your risk to our panel of insurers and come back with options, side by side, with the exclusions written out rather than buried.
3. We stay on it.
Cover gets reviewed as the business changes, and if you claim, we run the claim.
Bundle Insurances & Save
We all love a bargain. Add your personal insurance needs on top of your business insurance needs and bundle to save.
When you need to claim
This is the part that matters, and it is the part most people never test until they need it.
Call us first. Before anything is lodged, we check whether the policy responds, which saves you a declined claim sitting on your record. From there we report it to the insurer, chase the assessor, gather what they ask for, and keep you updated rather than leaving you to follow it up.
You can read more about our claims process, or call 1300 62 80 80 which is available 24/7.

Frequently asked questions
Does using a broker cost more than going direct?
Usually not. Brokers are generally paid a commission by the insurer, which is built into the premium either way, and any broker fee is disclosed to you in writing before you commit. What changes is what you are buying: a policy matched to your actual risk, and someone to run the claim.
What are the downsides of using a broker?
There are a couple of considerations. Working with a broker can take longer than obtaining an online quote, as it involves taking the time to understand your business and its specific risks. It’s also important to understand that no single broker has access to every insurer in the market. If your insurance needs are straightforward and you’re comfortable reviewing a product disclosure statement yourself, going direct may be a suitable option.
How are insurance brokers paid?
By commission from the insurer, calculated as a percentage of the premium, and in some cases an additional broker fee for the work involved. Both must be disclosed to you before you agree to a policy.
Do you only work with businesses in Newcastle?
We operate nationally and can be on-site in NSW, QLD and Victoria. Newcastle and the Hunter are our base and where we can be on site quickly, but we arrange cover for commercial clients elsewhere in New South Wales and nationally.
How long has Newcastle Insurance Group been providing insurance broking services?
We’ve been operating for 7 years, and our team brings together professionals who have worked in the industry for over 20 years.
Not sure your cover still fits the business? Send us your current policy schedule and we will tell you what it does and does not do. No obligation, and no charge for the conversation.
